Time_________Line
Life is like a timeline ... it starts and ends
During several sessions and taking into cosideration that Christmas is jut around the corner, we read an article about Christmas on British Council https://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/uk-now/read-uk/christmas to improve reading comprehension and in order to create the timeline using TiemToast in which students could create and advent calendar timeline according to the different traditions and subjects.
First, we read aloud the text. Then, they read it individually and finally, we commented the most important features of every paragraph - so I could know if they had understood the text - at leat the gist. The main advantage using TimeToast was the focus on main ideas. Students could not add every single detail from the reading. The first step was to introduce them the web page - I attached a draft from one volunteer ... Some of the problems were to differentiate between adding an event or adding a timeline since they did not understand the difference. For that reason, we created several drafts. Once they understood the activity, they wanted to use it for History Lessons since they can just at a glance see the different periods.
Of course, I was advised to use a timeline about authors or history, but in this time, I tried to be as close as possible to this pre-Christmas time and I thought it would be more interesting, since authors would be studied in future lessons - and of course, we will create our TimeToast for the next time.
It helped us to work as a team (teacher-student) because TimeToast was new for me too. Learning to learn is always presesnt in every lesson and sharing ideas with other departments of high school - French, Lengua Castellana or History and Geography using English ideas.
